Today’s Motivational Monday was led by Mr. Boipelo Makoni, founder of Youth of Hope and Safe Health Organization. The organisation works to redirect substance users, foster personal growth, and bring youth closer to God. It also advocates against drug abuse and promotes academic excellence.

Makoni’s session focused on a “3 in 1” approach addressing substance abuse, illicit drug trafficking, and character development. He emphasized the link between drug use and social issues, particularly gender-based violence, noting that studies show alcohol and drug abuse often contribute to escalated GBV cases.

During the session, Makoni shared his personal story. Despite being a high-achieving student, he became uncontrollable due to ecstasy use, which negatively affected his academics and relationships, particularly with family and women. He explained that drug use impaired his ability to think and act rationally, leading to imprisonment and the loss of numerous opportunities.

Makoni credited his recovery to faith, stating that reconnecting with God helped him regain focus and purpose. He urged young people to avoid substance abuse and invest in character development.

He also highlighted Youth of Hope and Safe Health Organization’s rehabilitation centre in Mogoditshane Block 7. The centre provides support for youth battling substance abuse and offers guidance to help them rebuild their lives. Makoni further revealed that the organisation is developing a mobile app to reach a wider audience, providing assistance to those in need of help with addiction and related challenges.

The session concluded with a call for collective responsibility in addressing substance abuse and promoting positive youth development. Makoni encouraged participants to seek help early and use available resources to overcome challenges and achieve their potential.
