Orange Money goes solo

The Orange Botswana has decided to separate the Orange Money Mobile Financial Services from their main business of providing mobile network services.

The company announced, “The Orange Botswana Board has taken a decision to create a subsidiary and separate entity to direct the Orange Money business and drive the strategy on Mobile Financial Services for the Orange Botswana Group, following the Electronic Payment Services Regulations of 2019 by Bank of Botswana which set out to establish the licensing and oversight of Electronic Payment Service Providers in Botswana. As such Orange Money Botswana (Pty) Ltd was created and formally recognised by Bank of Botswana as a licensed Electronic Payment Services Provider in March of 2020.”

Orange Botswana decided to celebrate Orange Money Mobile Financial Services’ Ten (10) years of existence in style by making it a separate entity. Since it’s formation in 2011, Orange Money Mobile Financial Services has grown in leaps and bounds to become a reputable brand and the most used Mobile Financial Service.

Mr. Seabelo Pilane, who has been with Orange Money just three (3) years after it’s establishment, has been appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the newly created subsidiary (Orange Money (Pty) Ltd) . He has been tasked with driving the mobile financial services strategy for Orange Money Botswana (Pty) Ltd.

The move by the mobile network services moghul is part of its broader internal Transformational Project “to complete the separation of Telecommunication and Mobile Financial Services operations.”

However, Orange Money remains housed under Orange Botswana at Central Business District (CBD). Moreover, the services and operations remains the same, as well as the call center and enquiry lines.

“Orange Money Botswana (Pty) Ltd. Will remain located at the Orange Botswana Headquarters in the Central Business District in Gaborone and customers are requested to continue using the existing contact channels (Orange Contact Centre call line – 123) for their varying needs. All Orange Money related business mail should be forwarded to (Orange Money Botswana (Pty) Ltd, Private Bag BO64, Gaborone.” Orange Botswana noted.
