At the 45th SADC Summit in Madagascar, President Duma Boko delivered a speech highlighting Africa’s legacy, leadership, and urgent need for unity. He paid tribute to the continent’s forebears, noting that their vision continues to inspire progress across Africa. President Boko also celebrated the rise of women leaders, citing Namibia’s new president as a symbol of compassion and resilience.

Reflecting on Botswana’s 2024 election, President Boko commended former President Masisi for a peaceful handover of power after 58 years of one-party rule. He described the transition as a courageous demonstration of democracy, urging other African nations to view Botswana as a model for democratic practice.

Addressing Africa’s current challenges, President Boko emphasized the need for deeper intra-African trade and stronger regional unity. He warned that over-reliance on external powers has left the continent vulnerable. He called for Africa to overcome self-doubt, reinforce solidarity, and urgently address widespread poverty and unemployment affecting millions.

President Boko concluded with a call for transformative and progressive ideas to guide Africa forward. He declared: “Africa is in distress, it calls on us to rise, to respond, and to rescue her future.” His address positioned leadership, unity, and bold action as essential for the continent’s sustainable growth and resilience.
