President Advocate Duma Boko has praised Her Excellency Dr. Beatriz Morais, the outgoing Ambassador of the Republic of Angola to Botswana, for her productive and impactful tenure. Dr. Morais, who also served as the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in Botswana, concludes her tour of duty having strengthened ties between the two nations through multiple high-level engagements.

During her tenure, Botswana and Angola witnessed several significant exchange visits. Notably, His Excellency Dr. Téte António, Angola’s Minister of External Relations and Special Envoy, visited Botswana on 21 December 2023. Earlier, Angola’s President, His Excellency Mr. João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, conducted a State Visit to Botswana from 20 to 22 July 2023. These visits involved interactions with Cabinet Ministers from both countries, reflecting the deep and cordial relations that Botswana and Angola continue to enjoy.

President Boko acknowledged Angola’s commitment to bilateral cooperation, highlighting the country’s generosity in granting Botswana a 30% stake in the Lobito Corridor. He noted that such gestures demonstrate Angola’s goodwill and the strength of partnership between the two nations.

While expressing appreciation for Dr. Morais’ contributions, President Boko encouraged her successor to build on the strong foundation she established, emphasizing that the bar has been set high. He further underscored Botswana’s strategy to strengthen partnerships with key regional players, including Angola and Namibia, particularly in the diamond sector. This comes as Botswana seeks to acquire Anglo American’s stake in the De Beers Mining Company, reinforcing the importance of strategic alliances.

Botswana and Angola continue to enjoy warm bilateral relations underpinned by trust, cooperation, and shared economic interests. Both countries remain committed to expanding collaboration across multiple sectors, ensuring mutual growth and the strengthening of regional ties. Dr. Morais leaves a legacy of enhanced diplomacy and closer ties between Botswana and Angola, setting the stage for continued collaboration under her successor.
