President Advocate Duma Boko has held consultations with Magosi regarding the proposed establishment of a Constitutional Court in Botswana. This development follows Parliament’s passage of the Constitutional Amendment Bill of 2025, which was approved at its third reading earlier in December during the State of the Nation Address session.

The proposed Constitutional Court is intended to strengthen Botswana’s judicial framework by providing a dedicated body to handle constitutional matters. It will play a key role in interpreting the Constitution, resolving disputes involving constitutional provisions, and safeguarding the rights of citizens.

During the consultation, President Boko emphasized the importance of incorporating input from traditional leaders, legal experts, and community representatives. Magosi’s guidance is expected to help ensure that the court’s structure and functions respect both customary practices and modern legal standards.

The Constitutional Amendment Bill of 2025 represents a major step in Botswana’s legal development. Establishing the Constitutional Court aims to enhance transparency, uphold the rule of law, and provide clarity in constitutional interpretation.

President Boko’s engagement with Magosi highlights the government’s commitment to inclusive decision-making. The consultations will inform the implementation framework for the court and support its effective operation once established.
