President Advocate Duma Boko has announced the creation of the Health First Botswana Partnership, a P5 billion initiative designed to strengthen the country’s healthcare system. The announcement underscores the government’s commitment to improving access to quality medical services and ensuring long-term health security for all citizens.

Speaking on the launch, President Boko confirmed that the Botswana Development Corporation (BDC) will provide an initial investment of P100 million. He highlighted that the fund will target critical areas in the healthcare sector, including infrastructure development, medical equipment procurement, workforce training, and health technology integration.

The Health First Botswana Partnership aims to address systemic challenges in the healthcare system, such as limited facilities, insufficient medical supplies, and gaps in specialised care. By mobilising resources from both public and private sectors, the partnership seeks to create a sustainable model that can deliver high-quality services nationwide.

President Boko emphasised that investing in healthcare is essential for economic growth and social well-being. Strengthened healthcare systems reduce disease burdens, increase workforce productivity, and enhance overall quality of life.

The P5 billion fund is expected to catalyse further investment from development partners and private stakeholders. The initiative will also support innovation in healthcare delivery, including telemedicine and digital health solutions, to expand access for rural and underserved communities.

Through the Health First Botswana Partnership, the government aims to ensure that every citizen can access reliable healthcare services, while building a resilient system capable of responding to emerging health challenges. The initiative positions Botswana as a regional leader in healthcare development and public-private collaboration.
