Presidential Projects Advisor Omphile Sehurutshe visited the Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) plant on Wednesday for a guided tour of its operations. The visit aimed to deepen his understanding of BMC’s production systems and ongoing developments.
The acting CEO of BMC, Kesolofetse Tibe, led the tour alongside her executive team. Sehurutshe was joined by officials from the Special Economic Zones Authority (SEZA) and the Local Enterprise Authority (LEA).
The tour covered BMC’s key departments, including slaughter, processing, packaging, and export preparation. The plant plays a central role in Botswana’s beef value chain, supplying both regional and international markets. BMC is also positioning itself to support government efforts in boosting agricultural exports.
Following the plant visit, Sehurutshe and his delegation proceeded to the Leather Park project site. The facility is currently under refurbishment and is expected to be completed by December 2025. Once operational, the Leather Park will support value addition in the leather industry, providing infrastructure for tanning, leather processing, and product development.
The project aligns with Botswana’s economic diversification strategy, particularly in creating industrial hubs that support local enterprises and job creation. SEZA and LEA are key partners in ensuring the Leather Park attracts investment and benefits small to medium enterprises (SMEs).
Sehurutshe praised the efforts being made to modernize facilities and stressed the importance of aligning national projects with practical economic outcomes. The visit forms part of the broader agenda to monitor and support strategic projects that can drive industrial growth and value chain development.
