The Council of Ministers of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) is meeting from August 12 to 14, 2025, in Antananarivo, Republic of Madagascar. The meeting focuses on key programmes, policies, and initiatives to deepen regional integration, strengthen peace and security, and foster inclusive economic growth.
The Council serves as a preparatory platform for the 45th SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government on August 17, 2025, where final recommendations will be considered and adopted. This year’s Council operates under the theme: Advancing Industrialisation, Agricultural Transformation, and Energy Transition for a Resilient SADC.
A key moment of the meeting was the ceremonial handover of the Chairpersonship of the SADC Council of Ministers from Hon Professor Amon Murwira, Minister of International Relations and Trade of Zimbabwe, to Honourable Dr. Rafaravavitafika Rasata, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Madagascar.
Over the three-day meeting, Ministers will review progress on the SADC Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP) 2020-2030. They will examine institutional reports and adopt decisions aimed at advancing industrialisation, infrastructure development, food security, energy transition, and regional peace and security.
The Council’s deliberations are expected to strengthen SADC’s collective response to economic and social challenges, promote sustainable development, and ensure that policies and programmes align with the region’s long-term growth objectives. The outcomes will provide a foundation for the Summit of Heads of State to implement strategies that enhance resilience and prosperity across Southern Africa.
