The United States government has formally notified Congress of a proposed donation of two additional C-130H Hercules military transport aircraft to Botswana. Each aircraft is valued at $12 million.
This follows the successful delivery of a C-130H to the Botswana Defence Force (BDF) Air Wing in June 2024. That aircraft is already operational and supports national and regional missions.
The proposed donation is subject to aircraft inspections and further negotiations. These talks will cover additional investments from both governments to ensure the readiness and long-term support of the aircraft.
If finalized, the deal would expand Botswana’s strategic airlift fleet to three C-130Hs. The aircraft will enhance the country’s ability to respond to humanitarian emergencies, deploy peacekeeping forces, and support regional security operations.
The C-130H Hercules is known for its durability and performance in challenging environments. Its addition strengthens Botswana’s defense capabilities and increases the reach of its Air Wing.
US officials say the donation highlights a growing security partnership with Botswana. Both countries share a commitment to regional stability and peace in Africa. The move also reflects ongoing US efforts to support capable, reliable partners across the continent.
