Black Author matter Visits Botswana

A group of authors termed Black Author Matter, based in United States of America are in Botswana with a view to impart knowledge and encourage the local youth to become Authors of note.

The group met with 60 students from 10 different schools of the Kgatleng District at Molefi Senior School in Mochudi yesterday. This was a first of a series of their meetings with Batswana aspiring authors.

Speaking during the event, Black Author Matter representative Nikko Toogood said the group comprised of authors who are black and come from different backgrounds and who write about different topics ranging from health, science technology ,psychology and many more.

He said their goal is to spread literacy and interact with the youth, to give them a message of inspiration and hope and to encourage them to share their story with the world through writing.

Nikko highlighted that after meeting the youth in Botswana, he realised that they have so much potential and are eager to learn adding that they are pleased to spread the skill.

Through interactions with students, authors shared their experiences and challenges and encouraged the students to believe in themselves and learn to share their experiences through writing.

Black Authors Matter group also used the opportunity to donate books to the Ministry of Education and Skills Development.
