The Botswana Police Service (BPS) has received a donation of P5000 from members of Police Intake 1999-2000 as part of their social responsibility initiative. The contribution was presented on November 7, 2025, to the Director of Gender and Child Protection Branch, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Goitseone Ngono, during a ceremony held at the Child Friendly Centre in Gaborone.

The donation aims to improve the appearance and environment of the Child Friendly Centre, which serves as a safe space for children in contact with the law. The centre provides a setting where children can engage with law enforcement in a supportive and non-threatening atmosphere. Enhancing its facilities helps to reduce trauma and anxiety for young victims or witnesses during police procedures.

The 142 officers from Intake 1999-2000, who are stationed in various police establishments across Botswana, came together to fund this project as part of their commitment to community service and child protection. Their united effort highlights the continued bond and shared values among officers who joined the police service over two decades ago.

Senior Assistant Commissioner Ngono expressed appreciation for the officers’ generosity, noting that the initiative reflects the true spirit of policing beyond law enforcement. She said that improving the Child Friendly Centre’s condition will help the BPS deliver child-centered services that promote dignity and emotional safety.

The donation comes at an important time as the festive season approaches, when cases involving children often increase due to heightened social activity. The refurbished environment is expected to create a more welcoming atmosphere for children who seek help or find themselves in vulnerable circumstances.

Through this initiative, the Police Intake 1999-2000 demonstrated a strong example of leadership and compassion within the BPS ranks. Their action aligns with national efforts to protect children’s rights and ensure that justice processes remain sensitive to their needs. The Botswana Police Service continues to prioritize partnerships and internal initiatives that strengthen its commitment to the welfare of children and communities across the country.
