The Botswana under 14 girls tennis team continued its strong run at the ITF CAT Southern Africa Junior Individual and Teams Championship 2026 with a 2 to 1 victory over Madagascar this morning. The win marks Botswana’s second success in the tournament and strengthens its position in the teams competition.

Rising star Malak Macheng set the tone in the opening singles match. She battled past Ainameva Onintsoa Ramanamampanoharona in a high quality contest, winning 7 to 6, 6 to 2. The match lasted close to two hours and tested both players’ endurance and composure. Macheng showed maturity beyond her age, especially in the first set tie break where she handled pressure points with confidence.

Botswana extended its lead in the second singles match through Angela Chakanyuka. She delivered a dominant performance against Koloina Randriamanjara, securing a 6 to 1, 6 to 2 win. Chakanyuka controlled the rallies from the baseline and limited her opponent’s opportunities, giving Botswana an unassailable advantage going into the doubles match.

The Madagascar pair responded strongly in the doubles encounter. They claimed the match 6 to 1, 7 to 6 after a closely fought second set. Despite the loss, the Botswana girls had already done enough in the singles matches to seal the overall team victory.

The result highlights the steady progress of junior tennis in Botswana. Strong singles performances and growing match experience continue to pay off at regional level. Coaches and officials will take encouragement from the team’s composure, fitness and tactical discipline.

With two wins now secured, the Botswana under 14 girls will look to build momentum as the championship continues. The focus remains on consistency, recovery and maintaining intensity against upcoming opponents as they aim for a strong overall finish at the 2026 tournament.
