Sunbet Botswana has donated the proceeds raised from the Sunbet Cup held in August last year between Gaborone football giants Township Rollers and Gaborone United. The donation marks a key moment in the company’s ongoing corporate social responsibility programme. All funds generated from the match were set aside specifically for community upliftment initiatives.
The beneficiaries of the donation are Bona Naledi and Cherished Being. The two organisations were selected by the public through a voting process conducted on the Sunbet Facebook page. This approach allowed community members to play a direct role in deciding where the funds would make the greatest impact.
Cherished Being plans to use the donation to strengthen school-based programmes aimed at young people. These programmes focus on drug and alcohol abuse prevention, rehabilitation support, mental health awareness and life-skills development. The organisation works closely with schools to reach learners at an early stage and promote healthier choices.
Bona Naledi will channel its share of the funds into grassroots and township football development. The organisation will support youth tournaments, mentorship initiatives and the provision of playing kits to young players. The goal is to create structured opportunities for young talent and encourage positive social development through sport.
Sunbet Botswana said the initiative reflects its commitment to supporting communities through sport and youth-focused programmes. By linking football with social impact, the company aims to ensure that sporting events deliver lasting benefits beyond the final whistle.
