The Botswana Investment and Trade Centre convened an Investment Attraction and Facilitation Alignment Session aimed at reinforcing collaboration among institutions responsible for advancing the country’s economic agenda. The high level meeting brought together Presidential Business Advisors, Special Envoys and key national entities including the Botswana Development Corporation, SPEDU and the Special Economic Zones Authority. The session created a structured platform for engagement focused on aligning mandates and improving coordination in attracting and facilitating investment into Botswana. Participants assessed how national investment promotion efforts can be better organized to deliver measurable economic impact. The engagement reflected Botswana’s commitment to building a unified system that supports sustainable growth and competitiveness.

Opening the session, Assistant Minister of Trade and Entrepreneurship Hon. Baratiwa Mathoothe underscored that investment promotion remains central to Botswana’s development strategy. He linked successful investment attraction directly to job creation, economic expansion and stronger global competitiveness. He commended Presidential Envoys for representing Botswana at the highest levels in international markets and for actively promoting the country as an investment destination. At the same time, he emphasized that these efforts must be supported by strong domestic coordination to ensure consistency and credibility. He called for a unified national approach that aligns messaging, processes and institutional roles to enhance investor confidence.

Hon. Mathoothe highlighted the defined mandates of BITC, SEZA, BDC and SPEDU, noting that each institution plays a critical role in the investment value chain. BITC leads national coordination and investor facilitation, while SEZA focuses on developing and managing Special Economic Zones to attract priority industries. BDC provides strategic investment support and financing solutions that enable viable projects to move forward. SPEDU contributes to regional economic development, particularly in areas targeted for revitalization and diversification. He stressed that when these institutions operate in sync, Botswana can present a clear, efficient and reliable investment framework to both domestic and international investors.

The session also placed strong emphasis on the importance of thorough vetting and due diligence in all investment engagements. Participants agreed that robust screening processes protect the interests of the country, the Office of the President and all institutions involved in investment promotion. Careful evaluation ensures that projects are credible, financially sound and aligned with national priorities. Strong governance mechanisms reduce exposure to risk and enhance Botswana’s reputation as a stable and transparent investment destination. By strengthening due diligence practices, stakeholders aim to safeguard long term economic value and maintain investor trust.

Discussions during the engagement focused on improving investor targeting strategies, streamlining facilitation processes and accelerating the conversion of investment leads into tangible projects. Stakeholders explored ways to enhance reporting structures and improve information sharing across institutions to ensure accountability and efficiency. A shared commitment emerged to prioritize quality investment projects that are ready for implementation and aligned with Botswana’s economic diversification goals. Participants agreed that structured collaboration and clear communication will drive better outcomes and faster decision making. BITC reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with strategic partners to position Botswana as a competitive and preferred investment destination, strengthening its leadership role in national investment coordination and facilitation.
