Botswana and France deepen relations

France remains Botswana’s long term strategic partner in the area of arts and culture amongst many others. The relationship is set to keep growing as Botswana seeks to become a knowledge-based economy. His Excellency President Dr Mokgweetsi E. K. Masisi said this as Mrs Laurence Beau, Ambassador of France to Botswana visited him to bid farewell as her tour of duty comes to an end, which commenced in 2019.

The President highlighted France’s ability to spread her rich culture as one admirable trait, demonstrating France has become the home to some of Botswana’s iconic diamonds and the pursuit for partnerships with notable French retailers, bringing diamonds and haute couture together, continues. They also discussed the long term Memorandum of Understanding signed between Haute College of Jewellery, based in Paris, France, and Oodi College of Applied Arts and Technology in Oodi, following President Dr Masisi’s visit to France, as a mark of many more collaborations to come.

Mrs. Beau commended the government of Botswana for taking all the necessary measures to control the surge and impact of the Covid 19 pandemic, saving lives. She highlighted the President’s Reset Agenda gave France opportunity for more areas of cooperation between the two countries. These include the collaboration with the National Council of Arts which will commence in 2023 to market the unique Botswana culture to the world.
His Excellency Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi wishes Mrs Beau well in her future plans.
