Botswana Secures Major Sponsors for 2026 World Athletics Relays

Preparations for the World Athletics Relays in May 2026 are gaining momentum, with Botswana officially unveiling major sponsors for the event this week. The announcements highlight strong local support and signal a commitment to hosting a world-class sporting spectacle.

Botswana Telecommunications Corporation Limited pledged over P3 million towards the relays, reinforcing its support for national sports development. Halfway Toyota committed 30 vehicles valued at P15 million to facilitate transportation for the Local Organising Committee and visiting officials. Diamond College of Botswana will supply 120 gold, silver and bronze medals, each engraved with a diamond, to honor the achievements of competing athletes.

Minister of Sport and Arts Jacob Kelebeng officiated at the sponsorship ceremony. He described the relays as a historic milestone for Botswana and the African continent. He added that the strong sponsorship partnerships demonstrated a shared vision to deliver a seamless, high-profile event that showcases the nation’s organizational capacity and sporting talent.

The event is expected to attract athletes, officials and spectators from across the globe, providing a platform to boost tourism and elevate Botswana’s international sporting reputation.
