Minister of foreign Affairs Honourable Dr. Lemogang Kwape to undertake official visit to Brazil

GABORONE, 27th July 2022: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to inform the public that Honourable Dr. Lemogang Kwape, Minister of Foreign Affairs, will undertake an Official Visit to the Federative Republic of Brazil on 25th to 29th July 2022, at the invitation of his counterpart, His Excellency Ambassador Mr. Carlos Alberto Franco França, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil.
While in Brazil, the Honourable Minister will engage his counterpart on bilateral and multilateral issues of mutual interest. The two Ministers will also consider progress made on areas of bilateral cooperation such as in the agriculture and health sectors. Further, the Ministers will follow-up on the outcomes of the 2nd Session of the Botswana-Brazil Political Cooperation held in 2020, and explore additional areas for cooperation. During the Visit, Honourable Dr. Kwape is also expected to give a lecture to diplomats on Botswana’s Foreign Policy, at the Rio Branco Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In addition, the Minister will engage the private sector to explore trade and investment opportunities and visit key industries focussing on agribusiness, as well as, pharmaceutical companies.
Botswana and Brazil established diplomatic relations in 1985. The two countries share a special bond of friendship underpinned by shared values of democracy and mutual respect. Brazil first established her resident Diplomatic Mission in Botswana in 2007, while Botswana opened her Mission in Brazil in 2009.
The Honourable Minister will be accompanied by Senior Government officials and will return to Gaborone on 30th July 2022.
