President Dr. Mokgweetsi to attend the 77th session of UN General Assembly

GABORONE, 13 September 2022: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to inform that His Excellency Dr. Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, President of the Republic of Botswana, will undertake a working visit to the United States to attend the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly which will take place on 19th-26th September 2022 in New York.

His Excellency will address the General Assembly during the General Debate which for this year will be held under the theme β€œA Watershed Moment: Transformative Solutions to Interlocking Challenges”. He will also participate in High-Level and Side Meetings to address, among others, Health, and Education and Youth development.

Still in New York, His Excellency will attend the 38th Annual Awards Gala Dinner where he will receive the Africa-America Institute (AAI) 2022 National Achievement Award on behalf of the country. In addition, he will host a Botswana Diamond event, whose objective is to underscore the important role that natural diamonds continue to play in national development and economic growth.

Prior to the UN General Assembly, His Excellency will visit Houston, Texas where he will benchmark with the best in livestock industry. The objective is to foster agriculture research partnership and collaboration in livestock with the view for Botswana to ultimately become more competitive in high-end export markets. He will also visit Texas Children’s Hospital and the Baylor College of Medicine, among others.

His Excellency will be accompanied by the First Lady, Mrs Neo Jane Masisi, Honourable Dr. Lemogang Kwape, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Honourable Mr. Lefhoko Maxwell Moagi, Minister of Minerals and Energy, Honourable Dr. Douglas Letsholathebe, Minister of Education and Skills Development, Honourable Dr. Edwin Dikoloti, Minister of Health, and Senior Government Officials.

The President and his delegation are expected back in Botswana on 24 September 2022.
