Shree Ramkrishna Exports (SRK), one of the world’s leading diamond companies, paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Minerals and Energy, Honourable Bogolo Kenewendo, to discuss collaborative initiatives in Botswana.
During the meeting, SRK presented its proposal to support Botswana’s renewable energy agenda through solar energy projects. Drawing on their experience in rural villages in India, SRK emphasized that such projects would improve access to clean energy in communities across Botswana. They also highlighted the potential for local businesses to benefit by participating in the installation and maintenance of the solar infrastructure.
The discussions extended to Botswana’s diamond beneficiation agenda. SRK reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the development of local diamond cutting and polishing facilities. They outlined plans to position Gaborone as a leading diamond manufacturing hub in Africa, enhancing the country’s global standing in the industry.
According to SRK, these initiatives would create employment opportunities, increase skills transfer to Batswana, and strengthen Botswana’s capacity in value-added diamond production. The company emphasized that developing a competitive diamond manufacturing sector is key to long-term growth and economic diversification.
Minister Kenewendo welcomed the proposals, reaffirming the government’s openness to partnerships that align with national development objectives. She noted that collaborations in both the energy and minerals sectors can generate sustainable benefits for communities while advancing Botswana’s industrial and economic ambitions.
The meeting signals a growing interest from international companies in contributing to Botswana’s renewable energy targets and diamond industry transformation. By combining expertise in both sectors, initiatives like those proposed by SRK aim to support inclusive growth, local business development, and skills enhancement for Batswana.
