Yesterday, Statistics Botswana (SB) senior management convened a corporate strategy workshop to develop and refine the organization’s strategic direction. The workshop is part of SB’s broader efforts to strengthen planning, prioritize key programs, and optimize the allocation of resources. By reviewing current performance and identifying new opportunities, the organization aims to enhance its operational effectiveness. The meeting also serves as a platform to ensure that SB’s objectives remain aligned with national development priorities. Attendees will work to set clear, actionable goals that guide the organization over the coming years.
The National Planning Commission (NPC) was invited to provide technical support during the workshop, offering expertise to align SB’s strategy with national development frameworks. NPC’s involvement ensures that the corporate strategy reflects Botswana’s 12th National Development Plan (NDP 12), which sets out priorities for sustainable growth and social development. The collaboration allows SB to integrate statistical planning with broader national objectives, reinforcing its role in evidence-based decision-making. Participants will engage in discussions to identify priority sectors, allocate resources effectively, and strengthen program delivery. This technical guidance is critical in ensuring that SB’s strategy addresses both current challenges and future opportunities.
The three-day workshop, running from 3 to 5 February 2026, will provide senior management with the space to assess progress and chart the organization’s future direction. Sessions will focus on refining policies, enhancing operational systems, and aligning programs with national and regional priorities. The strategy aims to improve SB’s ability to provide accurate, timely, and relevant statistical data for government, private sector, and public use. By establishing a clear framework, SB hopes to optimize resource management while ensuring programs respond effectively to national needs. The outcome of the workshop will guide the organization’s work for the next planning cycle under NDP 12.
Developing a robust corporate strategy is essential for Statistics Botswana to maintain its role as a key provider of reliable data and insights. The strategy will help the organization focus on priority areas, improve efficiency, and ensure resources are used effectively. It will also support long-term planning and strengthen SB’s contribution to national development. By collaborating with the NPC, SB can better integrate statistical outputs with policy planning and development goals. This workshop reflects the organization’s commitment to continuous improvement, strategic alignment, and advancing Botswana’s development agenda.
