Team Botswana has reached the semi-finals of the Southern African Junior Tennis Championship, with matches scheduled today at the Tennis Centre. The under-14 boys and girls, as well as the under-16 boys, will compete for spots in their respective finals, which are set for tomorrow.
The Botswana under-14 boys team dominated Group C, securing top position after decisive victories over Mauritius and Mozambique. They are now set to face South Africa in the semi-finals, aiming to maintain their strong performance.
In the under-14 girls category, Botswana finished second in their group. The team achieved wins against Namibia and Madagascar but suffered a loss to South Africa. The girls will now take on Zimbabwe in their semi-final match, seeking a place in the finals.
The under-16 boys team also excelled in Group C, winning all their matches against Mozambique and Eswatini. Their semi-final opponent will be Zimbabwe, presenting another opportunity to showcase their talent.
In contrast, the Botswana under-16 girls team faced a challenging tournament. They finished fourth in Group A after losing all three matches. The team will now compete for positions five to eight later in the championship, aiming to gain experience and improve their ranking. Team Botswana’s progress to the semi-finals highlights the country’s growing strength in junior tennis and sets the stage for competitive matches in the coming days.
