The Acting President of the Republic of Botswana His Honour Mr Slumber Tsogwane and the Minister of Defence and Security Honourable Kagiso Mmusi this morning awarded 74 medals to deserving Prison Service Officers during the 66 years celebration of Prisons Day.

The awarding of the medals is a noble gesture aimed at acknowledging and celebrating the selfless contributions by the officers through their unwavering commitment, dedication, discipline, courage, and their willingness to go above and beyond their prescribed duties.

Out of the 74 medals, the former Commissioner of Prison Service and now Commissioner of the Police Service Ms Dinah Marathe was awarded the Botswana Prison Service Medal for Meritorious Service. This award is awarded to an officer who has contributed outstandingly to the development of the Prison Service and to Botswana in general.

24 Officers were awarded the Botswana Prison Service Distinguished Service Order medal. This Medal is awarded to members of the Botswana Prison Service for a Meritorious Service with exemplary record and have served in the Botswana Prison Service for at least 30 continuous years.

22 Officers were awarded the Botswana Prison Service Jubilee Service medal. This Medal is awarded to members of the Botswana Prison Service who have a served for at least 25 years of continuous service, while 27 officers were awarded Botswana Prison Service medal for long service and good conduct.

The long Service and good conduct medal is awarded to Officers with a service of 18 years and have been recognised to be of good conduct in the Botswana Prison Service.
