Minister of Youth and Gender Affairs Lesego Chombo has called on Botswana’s youth to use creativity and technology to shape their future while taking a strong stand against gender-based violence.
Speaking at the launch of Touchline Digital Magazine, where she stood in for Minister Kelebeng, Minister Chombo described the new weekly publication as a bold and refreshing platform that celebrates sport, innovation, and local legends.
“Touchline reminds us to honour those who paved the way while giving today’s youth a voice through digital innovation,” she said.
Minister Chombo highlighted that Botswana’s move toward digitisation offers young people a unique opportunity to lead in creating industries that generate jobs and drive positive social change. She urged corporate Botswana to invest in youth-led projects and to support initiatives that fight GBV.
“True progress means creating safe spaces for both young women and men to thrive, free from violence and discrimination,” she added.
The Minister praised football legend Itumeleng Khune for attending the launch, saying his presence symbolizes unity and inspiration among young people.
“Platforms like Touchline prove that when young people combine passion, purpose, and technology, they can change the game for good,” she said.
Head of New Business Ms. Lame Jose said the magazine aims to serve local football fans by providing in-depth coverage of the FNB League, the Zebras, women’s football, and youth development programs. She noted that the publication will highlight teams across all levels, from the Premier League to the national first division, to promote growth and visibility in Botswana’s football landscape.
The launch of Touchline Digital Magazine marks a significant step in merging sport, youth empowerment, and digital innovation. It aligns with Botswana’s national agenda to use technology as a tool for development and social transformation.
By embracing creativity and technology while standing firm against GBV, young people in Botswana can build a future that is inclusive, safe, and driven by innovation.
