Ipelegeng Programme Revamped
The Government of Botswana took a decision to re-engineer the Ipelegeng Programme with a view to improve its efficiency and effectiveness. This was said by the Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Honourable Mabuse Pule yesterday at the launch of the Ipelegeng skills
Development Component, and graduation of the first batch of beneficiaries.
The Ipelegeng Skills Development Component (ISDC) is a collaborative effort between Ministries of Local Government and Rural Development, Education and Skills Development and that of Labour and Home Affairs.
Honourable Mabuse Pule said the Concept seeks to empower Ipelegeng beneficiaries through training on occupational or artisan skills, productivity, mindset change and smart work ethics, as well as delivering development projects, maintenance and construction of public buildings and roads.
He said the overall goal is to facilitate graduation from the programme and reduce dependency syndrome adding that the concrete collaboration between the three (3) Ministries is pertinent for the successful delivery of the ISDC.
For her part, the Minister of Labour and Home Affairs Honourable Annah Mokgethi said it was important for her Ministry to be engaged in the initiative to ensure achievement of the ideals of a productive population.
She said the Ministryβs implementing agency, Botswana National Productivity Centre (BNPC), have trained the beneficiaries of the programme in Smartwork Ethics, to inculcate a positive mindset and a culture of high performance.
Honourable Mokgethi challenged everyone to introspect and reduce excess baggage, in line with Mind-set change priority on Governmentβs Reset Agenda.
A total of 51 graduates received their certificates in the fields of Bricklaying and Plastering, Carpentry, Electrical, Tiling, Painting and Plumbing.
