The President, His Excellency Dr. Mokgweetsi Masisi has said that the Government of Botswana and De Beers Group have acted and entered into a historic agreement which is guaranteed to transform Botswana’s diamond story. The President was delivering a keynote address at the Natural Diamond Summit this morning.

Botswana stands as a global beacon with a partnership that supports sustainable economic progress, and Dr Masisi said that the development of people has been a priority for Botswana since the discovery of Diamonds, as a resolute endeavour was made to guarantee the sustainability of natural resources, especially natural diamonds.

The Botswana Government’s commitment has shown over the years through a robust people-centric economic planning, policies and visions that mirror the views and aspirations of Batswana, infrastructure development, and most importantly making access to education, healthcare, and social support a basic human right to all Batswana.

President Masisi implored the Diamond Industry to re-double their efforts, revive the spirit of collaboration and to reinforce sustainable and strong Partnerships. He said this can shape the future diamond journey into a shining testament that maximizes human ingenuity and determination.

This year’s Natural Diamond Summit is held under the Theme Sustainability: People, Product, Planet.
