Magosi SADC campaign continues

The President is still determined to in his campaign for Mr. Elias Mpedi Magosi. Magosi is vying for the post of Executive Secretary for Southern African Development Community (SADC).

So far His Excellency the President Dr. Mokgweetsi E.K Masisi has travelled to almost all SADC countries in an effort to lobby support for Mr. Magosi. His Excellency has went to Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Eswatini, Mozambique, South Africa, and Democratic Republic of Congo. Though bilateral relations were qouted, Magosi has always enjoyed accompanying the president in all his visits.

As it is the norm, as the president will be travelling to Lesotho tomorrow, Magosi who has since been named the Ambassador-at-large, after being moved from the position of Permanent Secretary to the President and cabinet, will be part of those accompanying President Masisi.

“The President’s delegation will comprise the Minister of International Affairs and Cooperation, Honourable Dr. Lemogang Kwape; Paramount Chief of Bangwaketse, Kgosi Malope II; Deputy Coordinator of the Presidential COVID-19 Task Force, Professor Mosepele Moseple and other Senior Government Officials. While in Lesotho, His Excellency the President will also present Botswana’s candidate for the position of SADC Executive Secretary, Mr. Elias Mpedi Magosi” the release by the Ministry of International Affairs and Cooperation indicated.

Also as it is the norm, bilateral relations are qouted. The Press statement further suggests that solutions to the pandemic will be discussed. “During the Visit, His Excellency the President will meet with His Majesty King Letsie III to deliberate on issues of common interest, including the COVID-19 situation to explore common solutions to the problems presented by the pandemic. The two Heads of State will also discuss ways of strengthening cooperation between their countries through the existing bilateral cooperation framework, the Botswana-Lesotho Joint Commission on Economic and Technical Cooperation (JCETC), which was established in May 2003.”

As it stands, Botswana’s Magosi is up against Faustin Luanga Mukela of the Democratic Republic of Congo. By the look of things, this will be a difficult election for Magosi as Mukela is quite decorated.
