Press brief on youth gender sport and culture

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture, Mr Kagiso Kitso Kemoeng held a press conference yesterday to share with the media updates on general issues concerning Youth, Gender, Sport, Arts & Culture.

Mr Kemoeng relished the challenges and reforms that came with the rationalization of Ministries. He alluded with confidence that he has no doubt that his team will craft a solid direction in delivering the Ministry’s mandate aligned to the government’s reset agenda.

Permanent Secretary revealed that Youth is currently bearing the brunt of unemployment which is currently at 34.4%. He said the leadership of youth prosperity lies with MYSC therefore he vouched to act accordingly to usher in changes aimed at tackling the situation. He also said that as advocates of gender equality, the Ministry seeks to give priority to issues of zero tolerance to gender based violence in its totality.

He explained that programmes like school sport, construction of sporting facilities and revamping of the constituency league are some of the efforts made to resuscitate sporting activities.

The Permanent Secretary said cultural tourism has the potential to create employment while the creative industries also present growing opportunities for the youth. He said this is evidenced by festivals including the National Arts Festival, Dithubaruba, Dubai Expo amongst others that our Culture has the capacity to open avenues that would yield financial rewards.

β€œThrough teamwork and engagement, we will definitely yield tangible results because where there’s a will, there will always be a way”, Mr Kemoeng said in conclusion.
