Rakgare meets Artists

Hon Tumiso Rakgare heartily expressed gratitude to Selibe Phikwe Artists for having an energetic and vibrant Mayor, His Worship Lucas Modimana who has the creative industry’s interest at heart by his continued presence at most MYSC events.
Rakgare spoke about how Phikwe was hit hard by the closure of BCL mine coupled with the arrival of the Covid 19 pandemic.

He shared with attendees, The National Arts Council’s intentions with regards to revamping the Arts and that the council is setup with a board and is in the process of finalizing recruitment. The National Arts Council will take over the creative aspects while the Ministry will focus on Policy development. Rakgare preached unity amongst artists and expressed how government has been assisting with cushioning the effects of the pandemic by spending millions on the creative industry by The National Arts Festival,Cross Country Recordings as well as Covid 19 relief programme and many more.

His Worship the Mayor, expressed grave disappointed at the turnout of artists in Phikwe saying that those in absentia should not expect to raise any concerns in absentia as they failed to show up at the meet and greet. Meanwhile, he shared techniques needed to grow the creatives and transform the town into a reputable events tourism center. β€œArts and culture will have a meaningful contribution in the resuscitation of the economy, therefore let’s build our industry by staying united”
