Law enforcement officers in Africa have been urged to work collectively
This was said by the Director, Strategy Development and Performance Monitoring Branch, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police, Stephen Tsheko when officially closing the Law Enforcement Leadership Development programme (LELD) at the International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) in Otse on Friday (26/08/2022).
The three-weeks course which was attended by 28 law enforcement officials from six African countries, was aimed at equipping them with requisite leadership skills amongst others.
Mr Tsheko said managing and leading organisations has become complex due to the ever-changing environment hence the need for such programmes to equip, empower leaders and close any gaps that may exist in their day-to-day duties.
The Director said todayβs managers must prove their intellect as they lead educated subordinates. He reiterated that leaders need to acknowledge that change is eminent and that the approach to managing should be both people-centred and goal-oriented.
Mr Tsheko went on to say that he was convinced that the information and knowledge shared with the participants will go a long way in shaping their law enforcement organisations. He added that it was important for leaders to encourage teamwork in their work environment.
When giving a vote of thanks, one of the participants, Mr Emery Phuna Badia, who is the Judge President in the Democratic Republic of Congo appreciated the Governments of the United States of America and Botswana for designing such programmes that bring together law enforcement officers from across the continent. He assured the gathering that they will impart the knowledge they have acquired with their colleagues back home.
