“Do the honorable thing and resign” – UDC to Lelatisitswe

The Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) calls on Honourable Sethomo Lelatisitswe to resign. Failure to which the president must relieve him of his duties. This comes after Lelatisitswe, the Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness convened a tombstone unveiling event over the weekend.

“The UDC calls on the Assistant Minister to do the honourable thing and resign, that is if there is any iota of conscience still residing in him, failing which the Presicient should swiftly move to relieve him of his duties. This the President should do if he believes in the rule of law and good governance.” Moeti Mohwasa, UDC Publicity Secretary held.

According to the UDC, actions by Lelatisitswe are “shameful, thoughtless and dishonorable”. In that regard, it would be “counterproductive and senseless to have the nation led by a minister who dilutes and disregards COVID 19 messages and protocols.”

The party is of the view that not getting rid of Lelatisitswe as a cabinet member would paint a bad picture. It would appear as if Botswana does not respect the rule of law, and that laws are made for ordinary citizens only.

“He shared the detalls of the event on social media and defencied his actions. This raises concern of whether these protocols are meant for ordinary citizens and do not apply to senior government officials. As the Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe forms part of the leadership at the forefront of the fight against COVID 19, a pandemic which is killing our people and destroying the economy. He is therefore expected to be exemplary in the fight against the pandemic. In a country where there is rule of law, all the laws and regulations must be respected by all regardless of their status and position in society.” Mohwasa charged.
