This comes after a Facebook post allegedly authored by the defendant, published on or about Thursday, 6 May 2021.

The Facebook post reads;

“I am a former soldier. Everything former President SKI Khama said here is a IE. In fact, soldiers suffered more under Khama than under his predecessors. He actually stole money that thee UN had paid to the soldiers who went for the operations and paid them less than a quarter of what was actually due to them.
Unhappy soldiers took the BDF to court and won, the BDF is still struggling to pay the debts!! Khama can fool some people, but not all the people and all the time.
In fact, many soldiers, serving, retired and those that resigned and were in the operations during Khama ‘s time get even more annoyed so such disrespectful statements by lan Khama!!”

According to a lawsuit papers prepared by Khama’s lawyers, Ramalepa Attorneys, the post was understood to impute that the plaintiff is: a thief who stole public funds for his own personal use; dishonest; a corrupt politician; a corrupt leader and/or public figure; a criminal involved in financial crime; and, is guilty of disreputable conduct; is guilty of disreputable conduct; not a law-abiding citizen; and, without moral fibre.

Meanwhile the defendant has responded to the suit and will be represented by Busang Manewe of Bogopa, Manewe, Tobedza & Co Attorneys.
