Ambassador Moorad welcomes Hon Rakgare To Rabat,Kingdom Of Morocco

His Excellency Mustaq Moorad Ambassador of Botswana to France and Permanent Delegate of Botswana to UNESCO hosted Hon Rakgare to a briefing session on the setup and composition of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Committee,how ICH works and what it means to list elements,in preparation for the 17th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage from the 28th November to 3rd December 2022 in Rabat, Kingdom of Morocco.

Botswana became a state party to the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) in 2010.

Botswana has inscribed three elements under the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding.The elements are:Earthenware Pottery Making Skills in Botswana’s Kgatleng District, Dikopelo Folk Music of Bakgatla baga Kgafela and Seperu Folkdance and Associated Practices.

Botswana has also bid to host the 18th Session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural heritage in Gaborone in 2023.

The Honourable Minister is accompanied by Deputy Permanent Secretaries Mr Moreetsi Bogosi and Mr Mmoloki Raletobana, Policy Specialist Arts and Culture Mr Dean Molebatsi, Director -Creative and Cultural Development (National Arts Council) Ms Obenne Mbaakanyi,Representative of Botswana to UNESCO Ms Purene Motsewabeng, Principal Programmes Officer II Culture Ms Tiny Bolokoe, Programmes Officer I Culture Mr Tshireletso Modikwa and other senior government officials.
