The Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture (MYSC) through the Botswana National Library Services (BNLS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Competition and Consumer Authority (CAA)

The Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture (MYSC) through the Botswana National Library Services (BNLS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Competition and Consumer Authority (CAA) which seeks to allow easier access to services by the public.

 

When delivering her statement on the MoU, Chief Executive Officer at the Competition and Consumer Authority Ms. Tebelelo Pule said that, β€œCAA had 11 offices nationwide before the outbreak of the COVID 19 pandemic, and the majority were shut down due to the negative impact of the virus, but currently only two are operational.”

 

She went on to mention that through digitization and the use of ICT, CCA has managed to continue to deliver services to its clients. β€œIt is through our newly forged partnership with MYSC that we have now resolved to leverage on their large network of libraries and reading rooms to provide services to our clients”, she said.

 

For his part Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture Mr Kagiso Kitso Kemoeng alluded that, it is through MYSC vast network of public libraries that the CCA will open service centres/kiosks in libraries to service clients who want to log queries, make inquiries and any other business related to their mandate.

 

The Botswana National Library Services, main objective is to inculcate a culture of reading among the populous and as such this symbiotic relationship is indeed a win-win for both parties. Mr Kemoeng further noted that β€œas part of our understanding with CAA, they have agreed to upscale some of facilities in terms of ICT implements and internet bandwidth where needed.”

 

For his part the Director at the Botswana National Library Services Mr Jacob Sekgoni declared that β€œindeed this is an exciting time where two service providers come together and pool their resources to provide better services to the citizens of this country.”

 

He further availed that this partnership resonates well with the BNLS priority area of enhancing external stakeholder relations and as such improving service delivery in an effective and efficient manner.
