VACANCY NO: IRC 1013 – INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY TECHNICIAN (RE-ADVERTISEMENT)

Applications are invited from nationals of SEACMEQ member countries (Angola, Botswana, eSwatini, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe) who are residing in Botswana for the position of Information Technology Technician at the Southern and Eastern Africa Consortium for Monitoring Educational Quality (SEACMEQ) which is a consortium of Ministries of Education.

General Responsibilities

Under direct supervision of the Finance and Administration Officer, the IT Technician is responsible for providing technical support over the phone and in person, and maintaining the smooth operation of the ICT resources in SCC secured network and communication infrastructure. The IT Technician must establish and maintain good relations and work in close collaboration with the SCC staff.

Duties:

β€’ Ensure effective functioning of the hardware, software, LAN/WAN connectivity and Systems.

β€’ Provision of ICT support services including user support and regular backups.

β€’ Administration and maintenance of Servers and website.

β€’ Facilitate procurement of hardware and software.

β€’ Distribution of ICT resources to approved users.

β€’ Maintain an inventory for ICT resources.

β€’ Perform regular routine backup in line with the defined frequency.

β€’ Provide ICT support to SCC events such as plenaries and meetings.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

β€’ Strong comprehension of ICT system and technologies.

β€’ Willingness to keep abreast of new developments in the field of information and communication technology.

β€’ Good analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to handle a range of systems-related issues.

β€’ Ability to work efficiently under time pressure with extended working hours.

β€’ Good communication (spoken and written) skills, including the ability to explain and present technical information, effectively train/advise users on systems related issues, applications, etc., and prepare written documentation in a clear, concise style.

β€’ Good interpersonal skills.

β€’ Excellent knowledge of English; knowledge of other languages including Portuguese desirable.

β€’ Attention to detail.

β€’ Ability to plan own work and manage conflicting priorities.

β€’ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people from multi-cultural and ethnic backgrounds with sensitivity and respect for diversity.

β€’ Ability to identify and analyze clients’ needs and develop appropriate technology to meet business requirement.

Required Qualifications: Minimum First University degree (Bachelor’s Degree) in Computer Science, Information Technology.

Experience

β€’ 2 to 3 years experiences in ICT helpdesk, networking and communication services are required.

β€’ Experience in working with highly secured and mission critical information system is preferable.
