Ghanzi show highlights the beauty excitement and great importance of Agriculture President Masisi

β€œAgriculture remains a key Government priority which is signified by many programmes and initiatives rolled out over the years and in most recent years to help promote and aid farming throughout the country”. This was said by President Masisi when officially opening the 48th Ghanzi District Agricultural Show today.

The President highlighted that the Government of Botswana is currently restructuring and improving the Integrated Support Programme for Arable Agriculture Development (ISPAAD) to ensure better results from its use. This is in an endeavour to facilitate increased agricultural production and ensure food security in Botswana. β€œOne of the components of ISPAAD is the strengthening of extension 9 services, whereby extension officers are available to advise farmers on the types of crops to plant in different parts of the country, as well as enlighten them about the due seasons and required optimal conditions for their cultivation”, the President said.

The President commended the Ghanzi Show Committee and the people of Ghanzi for their resilience and commitment in ensuring the successful hosting of the now national annual event as it pulls communities and people across all corners of the Botswana and even beyond the borders. The Ghanzi Show event present an opportunity for farmers, investors and traders who are eager to promote their products, develop business contacts, as well as share and also inspires others who throng the event to consider engaging in farming.

In addition, the Minister of Agriculture Mr. Fidelis Molao emphasized that his Ministry remains committed to ensuring food security to Botswana and this would be achieved through various programmes and projects with a view of improving the socio economic situation of the citizens. Hon Molao also said all these would be realized with constant reviewing of agricultural programmes which will facilitate the efforts to reduce the food import bill. He further implored all farmers to take advantage of the Government’s recent importation ban on some agricultural products to increase the current production of the named items.

The 2022 Ghanzi Show will close off on Saturday 30th July 2022 with Horse and Dog racing activities.
