“We have a deal doesn’t mean we have a deal”- Tsogwane

You are probably asking yourself if you have read that statement properly, or wondering if it is a typing error. Believe it or not, you have read properly, and there is no error. Unbelievable as it may seem, that is the answer the Vice President His Honor Slumber Tsogwane gave earlier today in Parliament.

Tsogwane was responding to a question in parliament today ny the Member of Parliament for Serowe South- Honourable Leepetswe Lesedi. “That Disney World is an entertainment company I don’t know” Tsogwane claimed. He further said the company was engaged to train the government and Batswana on customer service.

“Saying we have a deal does not mean we have signed the deal. Disney World has since turned down the government, citing that they don’t do businesses with governments. They suggested an American company that could provide customer service training.” Tsogwane proclaimed.

The Vice President was answering a question by Honourable Lesedi where he wanted clarity on: (i) Government’s deal with Disney World, the terms of the deal propounded by the President in March 2019; (ii) whether the deal was signed, when it was signed and clear specifics of the deal and its benefits to Botswana tourism; (iii) when visa restrictions between the two countries (Botswana and the United States of America) will be eased and visas issued on arrival as per the Disney World deal pronouncement; and (iv) if the deal struck with Disney World was not just mere electioneering talk that will never see the light of the day.

The president was cited in March 2019 during general elections campaigns saying his government has stuck a ‘partnership’ with Disney World which will turn Gaborone into “an international tourism and leisure destination.”

“We have struck a partnership with Disney World as a company. They focus on making people happy and bringing tourists. I want tourists in this country. Visa restrictions are out. They will be issued on arrival. I have tasked Minister Makgato’s Ministry to categorise taxis so that there can be value in the taxi industry. I am very committed to making Gaborone an international venue centre and this will bring revenue to our country.” Masisi promised.
