Goverment Assist FMD Affected Farmers

His Excellency President Mokgweetsi E. K. Masisi says Government will increase farmers’ compensation in the Zone 6B affected by the Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD). The increase is from P2480 to P3000 per beast irrespective of sex, age or breed of animal. The President made the announcement during the Kgotla meeting in Senyawe.

In addition the proceeds from the sale of the infected cattle less transport cost will be also be given to the farmers.

The President commends Mr Samson Benson of Butale for reporting the first case of FMD in this area to veterinary officials. Government has since moved swiftly to combat the spread by imposing a zonal quarantine.
