“UDC ignored BCP” – Gobotswang

The Botswana Congress Party (BCP), says its attempts to get details of today’s Press Conference has been ignored by the UDC. The Vice President of the BCP, also the Acting Secretary General, Dr. Kesitegile Gobotswang revealed when stating reasons for BCP’s absence at the said Press Conference.

“The issues to be discussed at the Press Conference have not been shared with the Botswana Congress Party (BCP). Our attempt to solicit these have to date been ignored. The BCP wishes to state that it is not proper for the party to hold a Press Conference before the leadership has discussed and agreed on the issues to be shared with the press. At the very least, the President should have confided in his Deputy, who is also the President of the BCP, regarding the issues to be addressed at the Press Conference.” Gobotswang held.

According to the BCP, the communication regarding the Press Conference was not proper from the onset. Starting from the meeting where the resolution to hold a Press Conference would be taken, to announcing the conference and its details.

“It emerged that the decision to hold a Press Conference was taken at the NEC meeting held in Mahalapye on the 10th June 2021, which the BCP was scheduled to attend virtually but could not as the host sent the link for the meeting very late. At the time of announcing the Press Conference, the resolutions of the meeting of the 10th June 2021 had not been communicated to members of NEC who were not in attendance. Nor was the Vice President contacted to confirm his availability before the advertisement was circulated.” the BCP claimed.

It has been mentioned that there are internal fights/power struggle between the BCP and the BNF (Botswana National Front) hence the distorted communications and snubbing of the meettings. Some like Sedirwa Kgoroba have mentioned that the BNF and UDC President-Advocate Duma Gideon Boko is a dictator. That the BCP and BPP had “proposed that the planned Press Conference be postponed to a later date ” but the suggestions rejected would perpetuate the claims that Boko is dictating.

Meanwhile, while asked about the relationship between himself and his Vice- Dumelang Saleshando (BCP President), Boko assured, “The relationship is fine, we never fought, we never had verbal exchanges. There is neither hatred, nor any disgreements.”
