Legal Aid Botswana Pays courtesy Call to Botswana Police Service

The Acting Commissioner of Police, Mr Phemelo Ramakorwane has said Botswana Police Service (BPS) is committed to harnessing strategic partnerships to improve service delivery.

He made the remarks when addressing a delegation from Legal Aid Botswana during the latersโ€™ courtesy call in Gaborone today (23/8/2022).

The Acting Commissioner said BPS recognises the importance of Legal Aid Botswana which amongst its mandate, assist minors linked to crime either as victims or perpertrators.

He further said BPS established a Gender and Child Protection Branch so as to provide a comprehensive support system, counselling services and effective handling of childrensโ€™ cases. He stated that the organisation has integrated child-friendly policing interventions aimed at averting abuse and violation of childrensโ€™ rights in the course of the handling or investigating their cases.

The Acting Commissioner emphasised the need for collaboration of the two organisations in issues of Public Education and support for children involved in criminal activities.

For her part, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Legal Aid Botswana, Mrs Keona Bernadette Mphetlhe said partnership of the two organisations will immensely benefit the children who have found themselves involved one way or the other in crime.

Mrs Mphetlhe also said, it was vital that the two organisations collaborate in other areas such as training as this will accord employees an opportunity of sharing skills and expertise.

She further commended the BPS for the progress it has made in addressing Gender Based Violence (GBV).
