The Vice President, His Honour Mr Slumber has reiterated during the 2024 celebration of the Chinese New Year also known as the Lunar New Year yesterday that Botswana and China have over the years fostered strong ties, built on a foundation of economic collaboration and diplomatic mutual understanding.

The Chinese Spring Festival is a tradition that spans over four millennia and stands as the most important and cherished celebration in the Chinese culture. It is a testament to the resilience, unity, and enduring spirit of the Chinese people.

The strong relations have resulted in China becoming a significant partner in supporting Botswana’s infrastructure development in various sectors of the economy such as agriculture, technology, and education.

His Honour highlighted that trade relations between the two countries have flourished over the years as the positive impact of social and economic sustainable programmes put in place by the Chinese community were felt across the country.

He noted that the Chinese Embassy, the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, and individual companies have assisted various groups and institutions with financial and material support to advance their objectives.
