Mochudi Centre Chiefs Can’t Afford To Participate In CAF

The 2014/15 beMOBILE Premier League reigning champions, Mochudi Centre Chiefs will not participate in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Championship League which is scheduled to kick-start on the 13th of February this year.

Mochudi Centre Chiefs pulled out of the championship because the competition is too expensive. It is reported that the team is in a financial crisis, hence this would not allow them to participate in the championship. In addition, they were given a short notice to comply with CAF Club licensing requirements.

The requirement want clubs to submit audited financial statements, development teams and contract of lease agreement with stadiums of their choice which was going to be costly and will take all their resources. Centre Chiefs will now shift their focus to the domestic league.

Some teams in Botswana choose not to enter CAF competitions after qualifying because of financial
constraints and teams spend a lot of money in CAF assignments yet they get little financial help. The CAF Champions League is an annual international club football competition run by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and top club sides from Africa’s football leagues are invited to participate in the competition.
