Welcome Back 2016 Mandela Washington Fellows!
The 26 Batswana leaders who participated in the prestigious Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders in 2016 are back.Β Ambassador Miller recently welcomed back the 2016 Mandela Washington Fellows with an evening reception. The event also included 2014 and 2015 Fellows, as well as civil society partners.
The cohort recently came together to discuss their action-packed 6 weeks in the United States, and shared their thoughts, impressions, and recommendations for the Young African Leaders Program. The fellowship is not just about going to the U.S. β Fellows are chosen because they are poised to make a real difference back home and across the continent.
This year, President Obama opened the fellowship to 1,000 talented Africans, and the response here in Botswana was overwhelming. Over 700 Batswana applied for the opportunity from all corners of this remarkable country.Β After a rigorous, months-long selection process, 26 talented, driven, and dedicated young leaders were selected for the Fellowship this year.
