DIGITAL INCLUSIVITY, GOVERNMENT’S PRIORITY

“Digital inclusion and digital access forms part of the Government’s main priorities. This is the reason the Government has intensified efforts to ensure that Batswana get access to the internet with reduced costs. There are currently some places where people are able to access free internet, for example in some malls”. His Honour the Vice President Mr Slumber Tsogwane said this during the official handover of the digital school kit and ICT equipment to Moreomaoto Primary School this morning.

The Vice President submitted that the Government’s aim is to eventually have internet in all public places such as clinics, schools, kgotlas and many others. He said this will assist in breaking the digital gap and promote digital inclusivity.

Applauding Orange Botswana for their good gesture, His Honour Tsogwane said that it is imperative that kids start using technology at an early age to be able to advance in life. He said this forms part of rural development which the Government strives and advocates for.

For her part, Ms Lepata-Mafa Nthomola, Corporate and Legal Affairs Orange Botswana, said that the Orange Digital School Program has been running for the past five years and has so far donated 30 000 gadgets, 120 mini servers. She said that about 60 schools have benefited from the program.

Ms Nthomola said that the programme is meant to address challenges found in the education system where study material is in shortage.

She said the digitised school material is designed for young minds and are highly interactive with a lot of pictures and videos.

The donation to Moreomaoto includes 50 tablets, 50 head sets, mini servers with inbuilt WiFi, a projector, a projector screen, a laptop and a printer
